Downhill Xtreme is running a competition to find the next big board designer and have their art featured in the popular Urban Rodeo Signature Series board collection.

1) Design back and front of your board. One design per side (unless both sides have the same design)

After the reports from the Intelligence Services, President Moosehill has issued a warning to our troops of possible gas attacks masterminded by the enemy forces. These gas attacks are highly dangerous causing severe disorientation and flipping of the controls on any device the troops may be operating at the time. The story of The Clench

Friends, let us regale you with the cautionary tale of six gunslingers who, at their most desperate and needy, thought it wise to make a deal with the big man downstairs.

In exchange for their eternal souls, these men were rewarded with riches, property, and perhaps most significantly, a musical dexterity the likes of which had not been seen since the heady days of Fiddlin’ John Carson.

And so it came to pass that the men lived out their days naturally, each having accrued a fine collection of ex-wives, sated bellies and exquisite guitars. Unbeknownst to them however, the bargain with Big Red was far from fulfilled; having remained unconcerned with ‘the small print’, they were alarmed to find that not only did the deal involve their souls, but the souls of their sons, and their sons’ sons, and even their sons’ sons’ sons. Until the end of time.

So please, allow us to introduce the current incarnation of these unfortunate souls, for they can’t be long for this world. With that in mind, they applied the skills their forebears bestowed upon them, and the fruits of those labors can now be proudly unveiled.

The story of Kip “Kidd” Russell

Kidd Russell used to free style on roof tops with professional wrestler Colt Cabana (WWE, ROH, MTV) while in high school. Colt encouraged Kidd to pursue his music career and even booked his first show at a wrestling/rap concert in Cleveland, Ohio. Kidd turned his college radio production class into music business 101. Instead of completing assignments he used his studio time to record songs that spread around his APU campus. After leaving college and returning to Chicago he built a reputation as one of the hardest working artist in the region. Self releasing, promoting and managing his career Kidd has had his music videos played on MTV2, MTV Jams, placed over 25 songs on TV including the TV theme song to Ring of Honor Wrestling “Rush RockRemix.”

That same music video caught the attention of Sonja Norwood, mother/manager of Brandy & Ray J. Her guidance led Kidd to working with Cisco Adler. Together with collaborator Ross Golan they crafted an epic EP titled “Pulaski Day.” Before the EP has even been released its already had 2 singles licensed to Downhill Xtreme, a longboard racing themed iPhone, iPad and Android game released by Distinctive Developments Ltd.

Kidd’s songs have been seen on Oxygen’s Bad Girls Club, Food Networks Anthony Bordains No Reservations, ESPN and many more. Over the last few years Kidd and his homeless Dj John Blaze have shared the stage with Shwayze, The Roots, Common, The Flobots, Uncle Kracker, Nappy Roots, Chris Webby, G Love, The Deans List, Oncue, AER, MOD SUN, Mickey Avalon and many more.

Kidd Russell is currently in the studio with Cisco Adler, Andy “Rok” Guerro of The Flobots & his own team working on his new album Pulaski Day due out in 2012.

The first artist to hit the spotlight is We Outspoken.

We Outspoken: A niche market for those who want and need to be heard, a stance above the crowd. An inclusive movement, philosophy, and driving force that four musicians have cultivated into an art form that expands the medium of music into something relative, real, and true; calling their audience to be Outspoken; to live the life they choose.

Indie, authentic, edgy, disciplined… are some words used to describe the sound and focus of the band We Outspoken. The year of 2009 brought together Anthony Mascarin: lead vocals/rhythm guitar, brother, Alex Mascarin: drums, and friends Massimo Alonzi: lead guitar/backup vocals, and Jason Sutton: bass, in hopes of creating their dream of playing in a band, not making music a past time, but making it a career.

Like scientists, We outspoken spent their early years and many hours writing, recording, touring and performing—getting their feet wet; understanding the business from a ‘ do it yourself’ prospective; it was this D.I.Y. attitude, past experience, and learning, that made the goal and dream of the group real.

We Outspoken accomplished a great deal while doing everything themselves, no management, just four determined musicians. We Outspoken have been featured in two international and domestic magazines: Canada’s Faze Magazine and Germany’s Outspoken Magazine, along with being on three international and domestic CD compilations: {HIV Yellow Head Comp, Pop-Punk Comp, and CBC/Tea Volume Comp.}

We Outspoken created their very own company Outspoken Entertainment, proving that you are nothing without a good business prospective.

We Outspoken have released two albums: Born a boy raised a punk (2003), under indie label Mushroom Productions, and their last C.D. Hear We Go (2007), under their own company Outspoken Entertainment. Hear We Go, made its way onto shelves and digital stores across the country (HMV included). This feat made things very real for We Outspoken; a profit was being made, tours were happening, merchandise was selling–a medium was being marketed and sold. Off Hear We Go, We Outspoken released a video for their single, “ I don’t know” in conjunction with Rawfootage Productions. Todd from the Dean Blundel Show (Edge102) made a cameo in the video and has been promoting it since on the Dean Blundel show and on his blog, generating 20,000 hits a week.

Throughout both records, We Outspoken had the opportunity of running a lot of shows; their biggest, was a show for The Ataris (2007), in Toronto, Canada. Under Outspoken Entertainment, We Outspoken funded, marketed, promoted, and self-managed The Ataris show. Singer Kris Roe, was so impressed, that he asked We Outspoken that following summer to book a few shows across Canada for him. In return, We Outspoken toured with Kris Roe and got to play many of his hits with him, “ In this diary”, “The boys of summer”, “ San Dimas…” (www.youtube.com/outspokenrock) proving their great camaraderie and teamwork.

Later that year, We Outspoken got the opportunity to play and tour with fellow Canadians Gob, whom of which they became really good friends with.

We Outspoken have also become good friends with Live Nation, playing shows with Die Mannequin, Pennywise, Gob and opening up for many acts across the country offering local/tour support with Live Nation and many other professional companies.

Most notably, We Outspoken have had the opportunity to be flown out to Los- Angeles, California for an interview on Sirius Satellite Radio, on the Jason Ellis Show (Faction Ch. 41). The Jason Ellis show has included the single “ I don’t know” and a few other songs in their rotation. The Jason Ellis show has over two hundred and fifty thousand listeners daily. We Outspoken utilized their time wisely and took advantage of the location and great marketing opportunity–playing a show in central Hollywood to promote their new music video and to further market their brand. The band returned later in 2010 for a summer tour in California, playing in Hollywood at the Viper Room with Matt Sorum’s (drummer of Guns and Roses) new band, The Darling Stilletos,qq and playing in almost every city (San Diego through to San Francisco). We Outspoken were also invited back to play at the Roxy in Hollywood, for Ellismania weekend, and most recently in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel for a performance with Unwritten Law.

The year of 2011 saw We Outspoken make numerous T.V. appearances where Yamaha Music Canada have sponsored the band on many occasions.

We outspoken have been working on a follow up to Hear We Go and just finished their new self-titled album with the mentoring help of legendary producer and songwriter, Jim Vallance (Bryan Adams, Kiss, Aerosmith, Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, Ozzy Osbourne and many more) and are currently looking to release later in 2012.

We Outspoken and their dedication, hard work and passion, have gained them more recognition as an independent band amongst thousands.

The new single “Crisis” due for release in late April is currently featured on the trailer for Downhill Xtreme.

Since we are in the spiritual home of Longboarding we just had to visit the coolest Board shop in the city: The Purple Skunk.

We met Rodney who, with his great knowledge, took us through their most popular boards and the different wheels/trucks each one can have.

We then met Austin from California Bonzing, a board designer and maker with a deep passion for crafting each board to be unique. We gave Austin a chance to play Downhill Xtreme and he was blown away by it.
