Downhill Xtreme Online Race Organizers in Finland drop entry fee to celebrate Google Play limelight

Downhill Xtreme, our popular longboarding game is currently featured on Google Play!

To celebrate our time in the limelight and welcome new riders to the game, the organizers of the Finland Online Race have kindly dropped the entry fees for the duration of the race. It is only 1 coin “deposit” to enter, which you get back (in multiples) just by crossing the finish line.

For those riders new to the Online race, here’s how this type of event works:
Choose your own list of rivals from Global, Local (country) or Skill leaderboards. You will also be able to play against your Facebook friends across iOS and Android devices and if you have an Apple device, you will also be able to add your Game Center friends to your Rivals.

Rugby Nations 13 First Screenshots (Dev Diary P6)

Hi Rugby fans.

As mentioned last time we’ve been wanting to share the VERY FIRST screen shots of Rugby Nations 13 in action. After being in development for so long, it’s with a mixture of excitement and trepidation that we release these screenshots into the wilds of the Internet.

So… here goes…

Rugby Team Select

First up we have a screen showing the beautiful new menu style.

What we’ve tried to do is to present all of the information you need in a concise and attractive manner so the menus are intuitive and yet informative.

Team Line Up

Next up here we have the team line-up screen showing the players from each team, their overall rating and the pack-weight of the forwards.

From here you can change your team line-up and select your substitutes.

And… drum roll please…

Here is the very first in-game action shot of the game.

The England versus France match is going to be a good one tomorrow so we thought it fitting to show these two teams fighting it out in the new game.

Downhill Xtreme Crew Battle Update is available on Google Play and Apple Appstore

With the release of our new Android update for Downhill Xtreme earlier this month, Crew Battle is now available across the board for all Downhill Xtreme riders to enjoy. If you are yet to check out the new mode, here is how it all works:

In Crew Battle you get to go head to head against the toughest DHX crews from around the World and outrace them to unlock exclusive (FREE) Spartan gear.

In this daily battle, the crew will supply you with their chosen board (returned after race) and you will have ONE shot to beat them before the tour moves on to prep for next day’s race in another location. There are no entry fees plus you will earn coins and XP from skills and energy points.

If you beat a crew, you will get your Crew Battle card stamped and beating all the Pro crews will unlock FREE ( and exclusive to Crew Battle) Spartan gear plus Xtreme battles. If you lose, you will still be able to participate on the battle tour as normal and focus on beating the next crew. If you’re looking for a rematch with the same crew, you will need to wait for the tour to come back to the location.

Want to get early access to the next day’s race? There will be Wildcard touts on hand to hook you up with an early bird Wildcard to skip the waiting.

These battles are no walk in the park so we highly recommend you practice your riding on the Medal events before taking these crews on. You’re hitting Pro crews on their home turf so you’ve got to come prepared.

Rugby Nations 13 Dev Diary Returns (Part 5)

As you may have noticed, the six nations tournament has begun and there is no sign of Rugby Nations 13. The truth is that we have ‘all hands on deck’ working to complete the development of the game but it is not yet ready for release.

As Sega used to say, ‘to be this good takes ages’. Right now we are putting the final touches to the game and tuning the game-play. What we can’t do is shortcut this tuning and end up with a sub-standard Rugby game. You, the fans of Rugby Nations, deserve the best Rugby game possible. We therefore continue to work on the game making it better and better each day.

We started development of the game back in May last year along with a completely brand new games engine we call ‘Blue Phoenix’.

Blue Phoenix takes everything we have learnt about smartphone and tablet game development and the engine emerges, reborn if you will, from fire of burning off all the annoyances of the previous engine.

A brand new game engine is a very large investment for any games developer. In developing a new game engine, every minute detail has to be carefully considered so that you end up with something that is flexible, powerful and easy to use.

It is the development of this entirely new game engine that is the main reason that Rugby Nations 13 has taken longer than originally planned.

What it does mean, however, is that the new engine makes the best use of the latest smartphones and tablet hardware. We’re now using the full potential of the graphical capabilities. The stadiums, players and menus all look gorgeous. And, it all runs at a silky smooth frame-rate.

So, the Blue Phoenix engine is purring away, player artwork & animations are up and running, stadiums are built, the commentary has been spoken and the challenges are ready to be challenged. All that remains is the delicate art of game-play tuning and balancing.

Tuning and balancing is a slippery beast when it comes to reliably predicting how long it will take. Our best estimate is for a mid-March 2013 release. We hope that you stick with us until then, as we’re sure that you won’t be disappointed with the all-new Rugby Nations 13.

I’ll be back next week with some further updates on progress and what to expect from the game, including some exclusive screen-shots of the game running on an iPhone.
